Smoking sidelines your sphincter
The first paper I wrote, used a radiological technique to demonstrate how smoking might induce indigestion and gastric ulcers by causing reflux of bile into the stomach. It was reported in the Daily Telegraph. I thought such media coverage was normal but it didn’t happen again for another ten years.
